About Prentiss
Prentiss Human Performance (PHP) has trained athletes since 2000, from Stanley Cup champions to Olympians and NFL players. Since 2016 we've trained out of Stamford, CT, in one of the best-equipped private training facilities in the world. Our athletes range from youth through high school, college and pro, training alongside adults held to the same standards.
Programs are backed by testing and performance monitoring, and every decision weighs what the numbers show and what the coach sees. A physical therapist works inside our facility, so return-to-play happens in one building, with coaching and medical staff working toward the same outcome.
The role
We're looking for a Personal Trainer who takes pride in coaching anyone who walks through the door. You'll coach to Prentiss standards, help clients close the gap between cleared by PT and ready to train, and deliver the kind of experience that keeps them coming back.
We take the development of our coaches as seriously as the development of our athletes. Coaches and interns who trained here have gone on to private performance, university strength and conditioning, and professional sport.
What you'll do
- Coach 1-on-1 and small-group sessions for adults and athletes using the PHP training methodology
- Run every session to PHP standards: repetition tempo, exercise technique, muscle actions, and smart progressions and regressions
- Work with our on-site physical therapist to guide clients from rehab into strength training
- Collaborate on individualized training plans and document every workout accurately in the PHP template
- Build real relationships with clients: communicate clearly, anticipate their needs, and help them stay consistent
- Keep your training area and equipment clean, safe and ready
- Attend staff meetings and PHP-hosted or outside continuing education
Requirements
What we're looking for
- Nationally accredited personal training certification (NSCA-CPT, NASM, ACE, ACSM or equivalent) – required
- Current CPR/AED certification – required
- 2+ years coaching general population clients or athletes
- Experience with post-rehab, older adult or special-population clients – a strong plus
- Degree in exercise science, kinesiology or a related field – preferred
- Clear communicator with a professional presence and an even temperament
- Availability for morning and evening hours plus occasional Saturdays
